"Never be a bad smell for a whole kingdom, my son. Walk like a jasmine among men."
— Jean Giono, Le Hussard sur le toit, 1951
Perfumer: Jean-Claude Ellena
Jasminum is Jean-Claude Ellena’s tribute to one of perfumery’s most captivating flowers. While Jasminum officinale, the variety commonly found in gardens, expresses a fresh and almost cool floral character, Jasmine Grandiflorum is revered as the perfumer’s jasmine — celebrated for its warm, creamy and sensual facets.
For Ellena, Jasmine Grandiflorum is more than a raw material; it is an olfactory totem. Its harvest is a ritual of patience and dedication. From mid-July to late September, each delicate flower is picked by hand. Nearly 8,000 blossoms are required to produce one kilogram of fresh petals, from which only one to two grams of precious essence can be extracted.
The scent of jasmine unfolds like a journey through time. At dawn, it reveals tender green and airy nuances. As the day progresses, it develops luminous facets reminiscent of orange blossom before transforming, under the cover of night, into deeper, warmer and subtly animalic notes.
With Jasminum, Jean-Claude Ellena captures the remarkable complexity of this iconic flower, creating a fragrance that is elegant, luminous and timeless — a true celebration of jasmine in all its natural beauty.
